Oh Joyous Love of Joy

What was I thinking with my previous post? Why sure as long as I love things with absolute boyish wonderment then there will always be a place for GBM in my life and my writing. Thanks to all my Blog friends for the lovely comments and help whilst I had my mid-blog-life breakdown, especially my Fairy Blog Mother, Mynx for her truly inspiring email. Much appreciated.

GBM will be going through a redesign and I plan to come back stronger than ever and even resurrect my Hot Ginger of the Week section and maybe throw in a few new ones.

So I found this song on the net and that's what made me realise that I don't need to walk away from GBM even if I was feeling I wanted to write about different things. I love this song, love love love it. I love the video, it's fantastic, shot in Iceland, oh my god wow. The styling is amazing, some kind of hipster meets pikey fashion statement, oh feels so right to me. An that up skirt shot just as a plane flys overhead, Wowsers!

A fantastic video and song from an emerging new talent. Here's hoping she will follow through with a great album. I am counting down the days.

GBM loves Another Project: Decoupage a Table

I think Husband and I might have gone full blown Hipster over the weekend. I mean we never meant for this to happen (or at least I didn't, Husband might actually be the King of the Hipsters). So basically we decoupaged our outdoor table with Film posters from the 1930's (not actually from the past but recent duplicates from a book).

This is possibly the gayest thing we ever have done or is it not gay and actually hipster? I don't know. What I do know is we managed to turn this:

Into this:

Yes it's been instagrammed, I am so lame. But doesn't it look awesome, all in a day's work.

Yay hipster awesome, fagbag, GAY!

These Hipsters are Barefoot Now?

When visiting a new major city it's always interesting to see what the Hipster look du jour is. Whilst wandering around the area of Mitte in Berlin where our fashion forward friends congregate, it was interesting to see what this summer's trend was.

Last time I visited East London in the freezing winter months I was perplexed to see the new look shoe-wise was loafers without any socks accompanied by rolled up jeans. If you didn't do this must have look then I assumed you dropped multiple rungs in the coolness ladder, for shame. All this said, I am a creature of comfort and the idea of my ankles getting frost bite in the name of fashion did not appeal. I mean bitch, it was minus 5 outside.

Yet this fashion statement was nothing compared to the mind boggling en vogue I happenstanced in Mitte. To be a la mode here the trend was your feet in the nip, nude, barefoot, nada, zip, bupkiss. Apparently shoes are too mainstream now. I had seen this once or twice before yes, but never had I seen so many all congregated in the same place, all completely barefoot. And I am sorry but how clean are the streets in Berlin? I can't imagine very! This is the right way to a venereal disease my androgynous friends. Seriously, what the fuck? How long does it take for your feet to get accustomed and callous enough for you to be able to pull off this look without looking ridiculously uncomfortable? Actually don't answer that because this is one trend I won't be following.

I'm sorry to rant but come on guys, wake up and smell the ridiculousness and feet are kinda gross.

End of.

Am I a Hipster or am I a Muppet?

Blog Bomb and I doing our best Hipster Impression

So it would appear that I am beginning to tick the boxes that would equate to me being a full blown Hipster. Lately I do think that Hipsters are getting bad press, they're not all as douchey as the mainstream media make out. So what Hipster like attributes have befallen me:
  • Writes a Blog
  • Wears skinny jeans
  • Started using Instagram
  • Likes ascetically pleasingness (shops, restaurants etc.)
  • Goes antiquing

All this said there are more Hipster characteristics that I cannot measure up to:

  • Not too cool for anything
  • In fact never been cool
  • More of a Muppet really (this was made into 3 points for stress purposes)
  • Can't play synth
  • Can't play any instrument
  • I don't like things ironically, I like just like things, a lot of things
  • Not obsessed with triangle shapes
  • Never been on the list to any club or gig
  • Picture above aside don't actually wear glasses, I have 20/20 vision and would never wear a pair of empty frames
  • Don't wear anything if it's uncomfortable
  • Nothing retro on my necklace
  • I don't own a Fixie bike
  • My mustache hasn't fully filled in

I think deep down I may be slightly fascinated by the idea of Hipsters but there seems to be an awful amount of effort needed to actually be one. Seems absolutely exhausting. I think I'm happier being a Muppet in skinny jeans.

The Adorkable Hipsterness

Zurich like most cities appears to be having a bit of a Hipster outbreak at the moment. Husband and I frequent Kreis 5, the old Industriequartier and so far the most common sight to see is the trendy Hipster on the fixed gear bike with their bike lock draped across their shoulder, skinny chinos rolled up on one leg and an air of indifference. In fact Kreis 5 closely resembles East London or Kreuzberg in Berlin but maybe with more money.
Old factories converted into the new cool venue or trendy pop up restaurants with the outside wall usually tagged in sometimes inspired graffiti.

Amazing Street Art near the Viadukt
The main thing I wanted to share with you all was something I saw on a sign when Husband and I were out enjoying the recent good weather. Some thing so cute but ultimately so hipstery.

Look Closer

I can't help but wonder who took the missing slips and what they did with them, I'm sorry if this is not your thing but as a child reared on Disney I found it incredibly adorable. More please.
